Cadillac was founded by Henry Leland and partners Lemuel Bowen and William Murphy. Leland developed and refined a rejected engine initially intended for the Oldsmobile to develop the Cadillac. Leland then formed the Cadillac Automobile Company in 1902. The first Cadillac was launched on October 17, 1902. The 1948 Cadillac featuring tailfins that mimicked the P-38 fighter plane. Cadillac personality and looks were due to Harley Earl, GMs chief designer. Earls outsized personality and influence gave the automaker&amp;amp;apos;s design studio virtually unlimited latitude in automotive design, often at the expense of the engineering department. Earl joined GM in 1927 and was responsible for the look of the LaSalle. After World War II, Earl created the on the 1948 Cadillac, which was inspired by the P-38 fighter plane.
